Stownes- blessings to your husband and family.
I just thought of a question- maybe it's a stupid one- shouldn't everyone keep the box under lights (I mean plants, lot leaves) for a few days before sending it on... the thought of plants being in the mail for a few weeks without any light- how does that work out??
AV&G Fall Round Robin Sign-Up!
The secret is to take what you want the very day you get it, replace what you took that very day and get it in the mail the next day...........people get their boxes in 2-3 days.
Small plants can make it easily a week if people pack right by putting moist make up pads over the soil or using moist paper towels cut up........and taping across the pad or towels to keep the soil from coming out.........and then protecting the outside of the plant in some way....(a little styrofoam cup or press n seal, etc)
Is there a post or saved post thingee or something that shows us how to package things so they survive? I would love to see some pictures as I seem to do better with them than with words.
I also have a hard time explaining what I am trying to say..........maybe someone else will chime in.
Here's the link from the plant trading forum about packing plants. Thanks, julie

There is giant difference in packing a plant the size of a brug and a tiny african violet, ladies. If you notice, the lady in the packing thread would only get a couple or 3 plants in one big box.
Packing african violets, streps, etc............is another ball game...........but maybe someone will come along and give some advice, too. Thanks froggies..........
Just think about how vendors send you avs, sinningias, streps, chiritas...........and copy what they do..............
I will try to copy what the other people have done when the box gets here as I haven't ordered anything yet and didn't pay much attention to what you and Lynn did when I got your box.
I'll wrap something up and take pictures as a tutorial sometime in the next few days to show how I do it. ^_^

I feel better just reading that RainGazer. I think I will be able to follow what everyone else did once I get the box but I started to worry I wouldn't have the right supplies on hand and that I'd end up holding up the box and everything would rot!
Sign me up please ^_^
Hi, Jan!!! Good going!!!
I am so glad I found this thread. I went through the house today checking to see what I could contribute ... spent the whole afternoon grooming AVs and had a wonderfully satisfying afternoon. This is going to be so much fun.
I am in too , yipppppppeeeeeeeeeeeeee this will be so much fun with so many people joining , I hope plotting the trail of the box for Nicole won't result in her being bald by it's end :)....... Please Nicole if I can help you in any way please , please ask and thank you for including so many people...........and me .... :) so much fun :)
Connie :)
Nichole, in the past RRs we sent named varieties of violets or gessies. Are we still doing the same? Can we put in 'bonus or extra' NOIDs? I have some that have lost labels and are quite pretty. Someone new to violets may want to try them.
I have to sit this one out!! No room for one more pot. When I get my act together........if...LOL.I will join in or just send a few of you a mystery box.
Lynn
I think we should all send lynn plants,I dont think she has enough lol
JIM
I tried that once Jim.......(LOL) and made it worse for her!!!
i hope everyone knows im teasing her, shes overloaded, streps dont stay small forever
JIM
Yes.........we know you are teasing and so am I!!
imadigger - since it is so close for this one starting, maybe it would be better to keep the NOIDs out of the box for now . . .
Hey . . . maybe a future round robin could be done for NOID gessies? Oh, that one has possibilities!! . . . ^_^
Smile.
OK. no problem. I have lots of named violets to put in box.
Annacanna , also when you get the box take out the leaves and if they have long stems do a small recut and place the whole leaf in water with a drop of Superthrive if you have it and leave them for a few hours or even an hour will help if you are short of time , it is amazing how doing this will refresh the leaves , they end up feeling and looking like you just cut them from your own plants , I did this with the leaves in the RR box last time and the leaves were still fresh when Gail got the box so a little TLC really helps them to make it through :)
Connie :)
So glad you posted that, Connie. I started to explain what you did for me in the last RR, but I am not good at explaining anything! (LOL) They are all making it because you did that for me!!!!
Thank you that is good to know. I do not use superthrive but will have water ready for them.
How do you live without Superthrive? (LOL) Anytime I pot up babies or start anything, I use a drop or two of superthrive in the gallon of water...........I use it on everything outside, too......
Some (a lot) of people even add a drop or two to a gallon along with their fertilizer on gessies. (I don't because I am lazy)
You do just fine Gail , I didn't know you had talked about it and I know that Anna is a bit nervous about it so I wanted to tell her what I do with leaves from the mail , it really makes a difference , I do this with leaves I cut fresh from my own plants so I know it helps with shipped leaves :) just hope to help Anna to have fun and not be stressed :)
Gail ............did you see my post about two-w manita and sophi , I have the plants and have put down leaves so please don't bid on any hun , I will send you some leaves or babies , whatever I have at the time :) so don't spend your money needlessly please :)
Connie
I am not going to and I thank you..............I think I said I am just about ready to send you a load of leaves for your last 'load of leaves'............can't wait to get those Two-W ones.........
****PLEASE SEE FIRST POST*****
