HELP! What kind of spider is this?

Holyoke, MA

I am a totally arachnophobic and I found a couple of these on my porch. I need to know what they are? They seem HUGE! I'm in Western Massachusetts.

Do you have another picture? It is hard to tell from this angle. It could be an orb weaver, in the genus Neoscona.

Yeah I have this one too.

I spent the entire morning today trying to move and get this thing off my property. There are a LOT of these exact same spiders all around my house but this one is huge. Looks EXACTLY like the pic you posted. I am including one too.

Another possibility is Araneus diadematus, known as the cross spider or European garden spider - see http://tinyurl.com/ybrlf5g for images. This European species has become well-established in North America.

suunto...that is it. That is the exact spider in the picture I posted. Glad to have it identified, thank you very much.

If you move a spider to a different location, will it come back? This thing terrified me but I didn't want to kill it so I had my boyfriend take her on a stick down and across the street to some vines which she crawled right into. Just wondering if it might find it's way back here. Probably wasn't the best thing to do, I know, but at least we didn't kill her.

It'll probably do O.K. there. As far as I know, these spiders do not have any 'homing' instinct, but if your area is a favorable spot for a web, another spider may move in and build one there.
