Fall Round Up at Louise and Hank's Paradise
Love these Jo Ann! (As I also said on the other thread.)
Celeste and JoAnn - Thank you both for posting these wonderful shots! You have really caught the spirit of the gathering! What a great time we had with all of you. These great shots make me look forward to seeing you all again next summer!!
The drive west this AM was spectacular.
Crossing the hudson river with the sun at our backs illuminating the white primed bridge with clous bank in front of us all soft and rose with lilac tops.
No one would believe it.
Lots of fog settled in the low areas.I thought I was on a Disney set.
Celeste - I forgot to tell you that the Luna Red hibiscus at Cuppatea is hardy, and I will get some seeds from it for you. I had good luck getting them to germinate and took one to Florida. It is blooming very late this year!
nice shots Ge!!!
and my raffle prize - that was very funny - and i do extend an offer to go back and get it if you guys can't it out louise. as long as i can borrow a wheel barrel and survey that wall in the woods behind the tractor. there has to be a couple big flat stones that can be used for garden benches - one for you and hank and one for me:) check that i'll bring my own war raged wheel barrel. How does Tuesday sound?
Great pix Bill.
I finally get it about truman.
I was clueless about the backstory.I need 1 question answered.
The rock looks like a Bull.
Is that correct?
that's very nice of Mrs. Wha!!!
She's sweet.
wha do you have enough room for all the wheelbarrow parking?
Great pics, Bill! I love that one of Cindy awaiting the return of the garden warriors! Hank is very excited to have you return and "do rocks" with him. I'll dmail you to set a time. He has a nice flat rock in mind for a bench top for you. In the photo of Bud/Truman, his earring shows up very nicely.
JoAnn - yes, Bud is a rock that looks like a bull or ox. We enhanced his natural propensity by adding some small rocks as eyes, ears, etc. and I requested that Hank put some eyelashes on him so the eye would be more apparent. Bill then began to cast aspersions on whether he was a "guy" bull or not. LOL Brian asserts that he is a pig and not a bull, because he has no neck. oink oink! LOL
Bulls are boys.
Cows are girls
Truman resembles a bramma breed which has a neck that disappears when they are laying down.
They have oblong ears that hang off the side s of their heads. Sacred in India
Yes! A brahma bull!!! I grew up with one in a pasture close by, and I made the mistake of trying to take a shortcut through his pasture on my way to school - the one day I walked to school. I didn't do that again!
OOOOOO YES They are fighting bulls.
My grandfather was a cattle breder and raised Holsteines(black and white) even those milk cows are not passive as they appear on Vermont ice cream cartons
You aren't kidding! Bud the Brahma is rather mild mannered as long as he gets enough hay! LOL
to be clear she said if i had and ru i was responsible for everything - not sure if that is being "sweet" - i will have to remind her of how helpful and accommodating hank was.
debbie regarding the wheel barrel parking :) - i have to be very honest on this, when it comes to rocks i am a taker not a giver - sorry no wheel barrels will be allowed - sorry if i have SHOCKED anyone :)
there is a long list of places i've brough rocks home from, i have rocks from mrs. wha family's property in nh - her friends in western ma - from crochet mt. next my sisters, the top of mt washington, and mt katahdin in maine - and from Annapurna and mt everest, yes mt everst in nepal - not from the top though - would love to do that!
and bunches friends bring a gifts - like the maine cobblestone from celeste.
Is there a support group for this addiction?
this is just one of many addictions i have joann - i'd have no time for myself if i had to go to all the group theropy meetings :)
Great pics, everyone! Makes me wish I had been there. My car's still not fixed. :-(
Bill, if you have a RU I will surely come. I will bring you a rock, too! I'll have to find you something special.
I love that Luna Red hib.
Karen
Join the club, Bill! I think we probably all have many 'addictions'.
Karen
Bill - Fortunately, the RUs don't require a huge amount of preparation, since people bring a lot of the food, etc.. Anyway, I'll bet when the chips are down, that lovely wife of yours will help you out LOL She strikes me as a very kind person. This is a helpful group in any event! Go for it!
Karen - if I can get enough seeds from Red Luna, I'll gladly send you some!
Does the Hardy Hyb need full sun?
Part sun?
Can I germinate inside in April?
Cast the seeds on the ground?(direct sow)
I believe the hardy hibiscus require a good amount of sun, JoAnn. Mine probably need a bit more than they currently get, and I'm planning to move Red Luna next summer. I have germinated my seeds inside, but others may have an opinion of whether they can successfully be scattered outside. I hope I can get some for you; in the past I have not hit the timing right and there was no seed when I gathered the pod. I'll do my best!
Does everyone remember all those wonderful plants you brought for us, and all the ones that were left over after Kassia's car (and others) could not hold any more? Well, do I have a wonderful DH or what??!!! He decided to rototill a new strip for the heritage raspberries and the blackberries (behind the big hydrangea), and I commented that I really need a new full sun area for some of the new plants....LOL Well, here's what he did for me! The Friendship Garden will now have more flowers from our DG friends! Wheeeeeee! Of course, now I'm thinking of what else needs to be moved into this new section in the Spring. hehehe.
Thank you all for giving me new gardens!! LOL
Memory and Debi - you get credit with the berries for starting it all!! Yay! Thank you, thank you! We are both berry lovers!
Wow, that's wonderful, Louise! What a nice DH you have!
BTW, you don't need to save any seeds for Red Luna for me. I have one hib, and thinking of getting rid of it. Gets eaten by the sawfly larvae every year, and that's just one more thing I don't have time to take care of. I have too much to do already with all the oriental and Asiatic lilies I have to spray for the lily beetles. I get sick of spraying. I'll just enjoy your Red Luna! Count yourself lucky if you don't have any sawfly larvae eating yours.
Karen
Really! What does it look like, Karen. No. Don't show me! I'll catch it right over the internet. I have those poopy red beetles. Yuck!
Louise, I think Hank gets the prize for Dearest H!
Kathy, the sawfly larvae get on the undersides of the hib leaves and eat away. They're little, tiny green cats. they make lacework out of the leaves. Normally I like lace, but in this case......
Karen
Hmmmm. That sounds familiar. I think I must have those. What kills 'em?
It's the only thing I use sevin on, but I didn't need it this year.
