Squirrels have flattenend and chewed many of my Asiatic Lily stalks to the point where I had to cut them near ground level. Will this have an adverse effect on next year's bloom?
Really nasty "crop" of squirrels this year!!
Asiatics Flattened by Squirrels
Evil tree rats! Was it squirrels or rabbits? Rabbits can do the same damage. Regardless, the lilies will probably be fine. The longer they're able to keep their foilage, the better.
Any time something chews on plants, be they vermin or varmints, you have the concern of disease transmission from one plant to another. So keep an eye on them next year to ensure the health of them and the rest of your garden.
Moby, thanks. Fortunately the lilies had finished blooming about 6 weeks earlier.
It was squirrels. They've been attacking the stalks to get to the seed pods. I have since sprayed "Get Away" squirrel repellent everywhere. Now they're really mad! Thank God I have no rabbits in my backyard due to wall-like privacy fencing. One major pest at a time is plenty. :-)
Mad squirrels ~ I like the sound of that! LOL
They chatter when they get riled!
