This is growing on my Fruitless Mulberry Tree where the suckers were trimmed off. Most of the leaves have dropped and I first suspected gophers as they run rampant on our property. No ground squirrel holes near it. Did the 'did a gopher get it?' tug and it seems firmly rooted. It has been there 2 years now and does not typically loose its leaves this early. Oddly, I think I see buds on the branches - don't know if you can see those from the photo, but you CAN see most of the leaves are gone. The full tree is Apr /May last year.
