Newbie needs help! My MG vine won't bloom!

Dexter, MO

This is my first post on DG. I'm a newly retired FNP and never grew anything. I've discovered I LOVE gardening - but have a lot to learn. I planted some MG seeds out of a packet I received as "free gift". The vines are growing up to the roof, and appear healthy--South exposure with plenty of sun and water. I fed with Miracle Grow once, but didn't really treat the soil first. I live in Southeast Missouri. The problem is there are NO BLOOMS--not even a pod or hope of one. What should I do?

Hi we need a picture so we can see your plant and that will help identify what variety you have. Karen

try bloom boost. thats the only fert i use other then that it promotes leaf growth and not flowers.

Hi dogpound and welcome to the mg forum! I'm in much the same situation with my tricolor "pearly gates"
I's up to the roof, looks great but no sign of a bloom! I'm a newbie to mgs too, I still think it may flower as the
season lasts into November here. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Good luck!

Welcome to DG and the MG Forum, dogpound!

I agree that using Bloom Booster by MiracleGro may promote some buds and then blooms to appear. I swear by this fertilizer to get lots of blooms! :-)

Thanks for the advice. I'm going out to find the bloom boost. I'll get a picture
and try to post it. I just remember the package had bright blue flowers on it.
We sometimes don't get a frost until November here - so there is still hope.

dogpund - My guess ... Heavenly Blue MGs! :-) Do you still have the seed package?

Hi dogpound! Welcome to DG. I went through the same thing with a volunteer Pearly Gates; it took so long to bloom I started to question whether it was a MG. When did you plant the seeds?

Dexter, MO

Planted in April - don't have seed package.

My bet is it is Heavenly Blue. :-)

Well, I hope all you need to do is add patience. Nice healthy looking plant there. It will probably be covered with blooms before you know it.

Well for an update. I treated my MGs once a week with Bloom Booster for 2 weeks. I now have 5 blooms and tons of buds! Thanks everyone for the help.
I know what I'll be using next year. How do you spell success? Bloom Booster.

LOL! I couldn't agree with you more! Works like a charm for me, too! Be sure to post some more photos as they put on a show for you! :-)

Oh yes, bet that's going to look lovely covered with blooms! Definitely want to see pics!
