I received a really strange "gift" last night. As some of you may know, DH and I moved to this house in 2006. Then there's the rest of the story ~ there is no official record of it being built prior to 1943 except the water dept installed a water meter in 1935. Hmm...? I've spent the last 2 years doing a great deal of research with the city historian, poured over old city registries, contacted previous owners (all over the country!), and many internet searches. The only person I didn't try tracking was a gentleman by the of Williams who, 74 years ago, built the house next door . Too many by that name to even try.

So who should appear in my driveway last night? A sweet little old lady who grew up living in that house next door, built by her grandpa! She's 81, and her grandpa also built our house as a 'county summer house' to get away from the city. Kinda funny now, since we live right smack in the middle of town and "the city" is only about 15 blocks away.

For someone that loves research and answers, this was such a treat!

After spending most of the beautiful day piddling in the garden, I decided I should rack up a least a little time in the hammock. What should appear not 10 feet away was a hummingbird enjoying the agastache! Not a big deal for most folks but I've never seen one here, so I had another nice surprise.

Then I suggested DH and I knock off early (we usually work until dark). Went for a ride in Bluebelle, visited with a few friends and got a bite to eat. Now it's off to bed and back to work tomorrow.

Really, I shouldn't be giggling. It is a nice gesture. Someone at work brought candy on her birthday. It was very thoughtful.

Frankly, I would make pie.

Frankly, my dear, I... make my own Pineapple Upside Down b-day cake because nobody does it better! How can you go wrong with a whole stick of butter and a couple cups of brown sugar?? DH and DS get birthday pies. Pecan and pumpkin, respectively.

And, yes, smarty pants, I always bring enough for the whole class. Except for my
P-U-S-D cake ~ keep your grubby paws to yourself. ;)
