I know that many of you are rejoicing with the latest rounds of rain hitting most of the state. I'm so happy that those of you down in South Texas are getting rain and that it's hitting the Hill Country. What wonderful news!! I know my dad down in San Antonio is excited that he's getting rain and that the recharge zone is also getting it.
Since last night, we've collected 4.5" of rain in our rain gauge!! I think it rained for about 2 hours straight last night and it was some serious rain, not the drizzly stuff!
Thank God for sending the rain!! Everyone be careful out there and watch for flooding!
RAIN!!
Rained all night here in Johnson County. Slow drizzle type. Don't know our total because our old gauge broke and the new rain gauge we bought 3 weeks ago is still not installed. LOL.
Anxious to hear reports from the South Texas members.
We actually are getting rain here in NW Florida - it's a real blessing!
Last time I checked the gauge we'd had over 2 inches. We've had showers for the last three or four days. It is great to watch the area go from brown to green.
Hi, Suzie!!! I hope all is going great with you and your family.
i got.............it
i got..............it.
pouring down today. pour away. at least the top 3-4 inches of my dirt is wet now.
its started out sprinkling this morning and I went out to work on the pampas grass and now that I am done I came in hair soaked and clothes all wet but hey the pampas grass is out and ready to be separated.... ground was bone dry under it and under the roots......lol....is raining nice now so if we can keep it up all day that will be good
It's been a steady, slow, soaking rain since last night here in Rowlett (NE Texas). So far I've got just over 2". I love this kind of rain and hope it continues for days!!
Carla
i am not complaining, but we keep getting missed and the rain we have had is mostly just a drizzle. since the beginning of the rain, we have gotten about 1/2 inch. believe me, i am excited to have ANY rain, but i was hoping for several inches! it does look like you guys up by DFW are getting hit hard.
tracie
We are up to 8+ inches since Wed. night. We had rain off and on the days before but it has been steady since early Thursday AM everything is a soggy mess and the barn stinks but I'm not complaining. I have to admit that it almost doesn't seem real. It is drizzling now and there is a good chance of rain on Sunday.
Lisa
As of bedtime last night, we're up to 5.75". I can't remember the last time we had that much rain! It was drizzling last night when we went to bed. Woke up to heavy showers. Wish I had a tin roof! :)
Still coming down here in Johnson County. Everyone has me to thank for this rain in North Central Texas because I volunteered to care for a friend's 2 dogs while they are moving. [That is a better rain-maker than washing the car !] One is my 14-year-old Min. Schnauzer's brother. Well... they are like 2 "little old men" and have to go very frequently. So in the pouring rain I carry them out to the pee tree and then we get soaking wet running back to the front door. I can towel the dogs off but it doesn't do much for my hair. LOL. But, hey, they are worth it and so is the rain.
Happy Rainy Day, all.
Glenna
According to my rain gauge, we've gotten close to 7" so far. I'm starting to think about building an ark!
Dennis
We have had a grand total of 1/2"! Guess I need to wash the truck!
I'm starting to think about building an ark!
That was the first thing I said to DH this morning. ROFL.
We've had a steady amount of rain here for 3 days now, so welcome too! The only downside was that a friend of mine had her wedding yesterday, it was supposed to be outside but had to be moved indoors.
Yes, this is incredible, still raining, I don't think I remember rain lasting this long before, now if could get the rain to fall only on the lakes we could get them all filled up and be back in business, the soil has enough.
I dumped another 3.5" out of the rain gauge this morning. I'll take a ticket for 2 humans + 2 cats on the ark, please!
if you look at the state wide radar, the rain is kinda swirling from the coast. lufkin is smack in the middle where there is little or no rain! it was bad enough when there was no rain at all in the state, but to keep missing it is agonizing! lol
tracie
Tracie, it sounds like you have the invisible dome around your house, too!
We've had that natural occurring phenomenon surround our house on many rainy days this summer!!
that is what we have semi-joked about all summer! that the "force field" was working! our pond is the lowest i have ever seen it. my brother lives up in the DFW area and it seems that they have gotten a lot more rain all summer than many other parts of the state. yes, i have rain envy!!
tracie
I was out digging up in the garden. I am amazed that some soil is still dry! On the other hand, I saw snails that have had enough wet. They were crawling up my door last night. Yuck!
Oh yuck, Anna!
There were 8 1/2 inches in my rain gauge this afternoon, amazing.
We have one of those BIG plastic rain gauges. DH is charge of taking measurements and emptying it. According to him, we have had 11 inches since it started Thursday night and it is still raining. My fish pond ran over. So far the fish are staying close to the bottom. The flower beds have been standing level (3 inches) since yesterday. We needed rain just not all at once.
Christi
oh, brag about the rain why dont you! lol us with our 1/2 inch! as i said i have rain envy. lol maybe we will get some harder rain this afternoon. (crossing fingers).
tracie
I do wish I could push this your way. The community across the freeway from us is flooding. The news just came and said they are evacuating homes. I'm glad I live on a hill. Too much of a good thing.
Now West Texas is getting it. They'll probably flood now.
I'm sorry to hear about the flooding. I've had over 7" in my rain gauge since Friday, but it's been the slow, steady, soaking kind. My lawn and flowerbeds are loving it.
I went for a walk around my neighborhood late Saturday afternoon and there were snails all over the sidewalks. I really had to watch where I was stepping.
Carla
Carla, you didn't crush them? That's what eats the plants.
Lou, she probably didn't want to slip and fall on her can!
it rained good yesterday and t has rained off an on all day over here and it is raining again now
luckily the pampas grass is outside where it is getting some water to keep it alive til it finds a new home
No, I can't crush snails. I don't plant/grow anything that they like, so I don't mind them.
Carla
Wow, Carla! You must have some pretty special snails. Mine eat anything and everything!
carla i ain't no snail crusher either. i am a roach crusher. i have those big ol water roaches. i love to get one of those.
We have that same rain gauge! We got a total of 8" the past 5 days. They're now predicting more tomorrow. Ugh! I'm ready for more sunshine!
Yep. That's the one that has measured 14 1/2 inches since last Thursday night. Walked the garden late yesterday when it finally quit drizzling and a couple of the biggest brugmansia are wilted, like the leaves are shriveled. I hope it drains enough today so they can breathe. In 2004 it rained continuously for 6 weeks. Lost a lot of plants that time.
I'm a wuss, I can't crush anything. But I don't know why my snails don't eat my plants. They're all around my foundation, but I've never seen them on any of my plants. The Texas Gulf Coast Toad was on my back patio last night -- I leave the big roaches to him.
:-)
