This piece had previously fallen off of the plant shown in the "anatomy lesson needed" thread. At that time I just stuck it in the pot with some rods to support it. And the other day I noticed that a bud was forming. What tenacity. What a surprise. Xuling
stuck a piece in the ground and here is a bud
Will be watching for the red or pink bloom. I am curious as to how long did it take for a bud to form after it was put in a pot?.
i am trying to remember and taking a wild and random guess - 6 weeks to 2 months??
xuling
I will be watching it. Thanks
That's going to be a pretty one! Can't wait to see a photo of the open bloom!
Looking forward to the bloom also
Sandy
not quite open yet, but it is opening a little more. xuling
Wow, that one is taking it's sweet time, isn't it? Can't wait to see the picture. If it's beginning to open, don't forget to check about 11:00 p.m. tonight, you sure don't want to miss it.
11:00 PM ???????? that is way past my bedtime. it is hot enough this evening that it could bloom I suppose. some months back, when i thought that it liked the direct sun and heat, there was one bloom but it was during the day. so we shall see what this one does. xuling
i just checked it and it is indeed trying to open. when i come back from a meeting at 8:30 i will check it. and i just changed the camera lens in case i need to take a pic. xuling
I guess I was thinking it was a night bloomer. I have two night blooming epi's and for years missed the blooms because I never went out to look at them in the night.
I'm loving it. Can never have too many photos.
still hasn't opened. saturday 4:58 PM
Wow, that thing sure is a slow poke!
check the tip. It will start to loosen up there first.
Sandy
it opened!!! i am editing pics right now after spending half the day taking pics of this epi, cone flowers and various types of cactus/succ.(with and without flowers!). will post soon. sorry to keep you in suspense :) xuling
Waiting.......
after taking and editing about 300 pics of this blossom today my eyes are crossed. i take them at various shutter speeds and apertures and have attempted to pick the most color-true photos of the epi. hopefully you will enjoy all 6 of them (6 pics of the same blossom). xuling

I am so happy for you. Such beautiful pictures. How proud you must feel after all that time watching and worrying. Does it have a fragrance?. Wish I was there to see them in person.
Thanks.
beautiful

What lovely pictures of a beautiful plant. They make us wait, but the wait is always worth it!
Wow, it sure took that flower a long time to open but oh, what a gorgeous bloom! Great job xuling!
great job epi, i'd say. the only thing i did, when i found out it wasn't really a "cactus" is move it out of the direct hot sun into filtered shade!! live and learn. i will post 2 more pics later that i took today. it really is a beautiful flower. and to answer the question, there is no fragrance, just a wheelbarrow full of beauty. xuling
Oh wow, you mean the bloom was open yesterday and still open today?! That is so cool!
The bloom is amazing, love the vivid color ... scarletorangered! Beautiful!
and i think it will be open tomorrow also. and if it is i will take a pic. x
I would love to know the name of that Epi!
