This is only exciting to those of you who have experienced drought! It rained yesterday and it is raining again this morning. In one day of 1/2" rain yesterday, the plumerias opened, the corkscrew vine is blooming and everything is opening up. It is simply amazing what God's rain does as opposed to the water hose!!!
I would take a picture for you of blooms but it is raining too hard and would ruin my camera!!!
Wish my car wasn't sitting there to block the view of the vines and plants!!
First Rain Since January 09!!!
Oh Gail, what a blessing! I know how desperately y'all have needed the rain and I'm so thankful you're getting it! Makes you want to go out and dance in it, doesn't it? LOL
Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain!!
I can almost imagine how good that would feel...first rain since January...I'd be out standing in it!! Doing a great big happy dance!
Send it up this way, Gail!
I almost feel guilty!! I know San Antonio and the Austin area is dry, too............
You and your brother need it more than I do . . . but, sharing is caring!!!!
I know we are not supposed to talk about politics and religion, but all I can say is , "Praise God" for this little bloom on my Corkscrew vine. Bonnie, I haven't had any beans so far. The first bean I pulled off, I pulled too soon and ruined the beans. With this rain, surely I will get some seeds to plant for people.
Love that corkscrew vine! Does it smell as good as everyone says it does?
And I'm jealous of your plumeria! I have four and not a single one even offers to bloom. I honestly don't think I'm going to be able to get them to bloom. I've given them lots of water and fertilizer and they're sitting in full sun, but nothing. Maybe they need a more plumeria-suitable home...
Plumerias love our heat!!! I am letting them grow one more year in pots and then they will be hardy enough to plant in the ground and weather our winters...............
You can always send them my way.........smiling...........
I may just do that. I don't know where I'll put them this winter and I certainly don't want them to die. They need to be where they can bloom and bring joy to someone. It pains me that I can't get them to bloom, but I just don't know what else to do for them. We've actually had a decent amount of rain the last month or so and I thought that might get at least one of them to offer a bloom, but nothing... :oP
Ready to receive with open arms (LOL)........seriously...............we can call it a trade since I just sent you a box of african violets............??????
Edited to say....of course I will pay for shipping........always do...........

mrsbonnie

Well, we must have gotten some rain, at least for a few minutes. Just went out on the patio to get the laundry out of the dryer . . . half the parking area was wet, the other dry. Didn't see any water on the cars, so it must have rained for a few minutes during dinner . . . oh, well. Nothing like Gail's rain, but some is better than none!
The really weird part about rain is that while it was literally pouring down here at the farm, my brother said they got less than half at his house (a half mile down the road).
Woo Hoo ~ ~ ~ * * * ~ ~ ~ Dancing, ~ ~ ~ and I can just hear the plants ♪♫ * Singing * ♫♪
So glad y'all finally got some rain! We've had long, severe drought conditions in the past and it's always such a blessing when the heavens finally release some of that moisture!
Gail,
I am so happy you got some rain.It was terrible the way the ground was cracking and everything was drying up so bad!! I hope my son and other family in San Antonio get some too!!
Lynn
Now I still have to deal with the utility room on a big slab that has separated from the pier and beam house by 3"........just fell in the ground!!!! I will take pictures for you tomorrow. And..........insurance won't pay for it because we don't live where earthquakes happen (LOL).....
The front porch mexican tile floor has completely cracked up because the slab underneath broke during the middle of the drought. I just couldn't pour enough water from the water hose around the pier and beam house........at least the front porch doesn't affect the house, but the utility room does as it share the same roof line, etc...........
That is scary when it gets so dry for so long that cement foundations begin to crack!
I hope you didn't get hurt when you fell Gail ... sometimes bruising and pain don't occur until a bit after a fall.
I must have really strong bones, Lin......seriously as I take a lot of hard falls, but just bounce back up and keep going. I take a lot of falls only because my knee doesn't hold up when I think it is going to, but the good stuff (the cortisone shots) get here this weekend from my cousin who is an ortho surgeon. Hip hip hooray!
That looks scary! I worry about sinkholes. There was a news report just a few days back that showed a house somewhere here in Florida that was for sale and a huge sink hole opened up in the front yard right near the house and and I forget how many truckloads of cement they said had been dumped into the hole to try to stabilize the ground ... but it wasn't working! I just googled and found the msnbc report: http://snackfeed.com/videos/detail/b15aa680-ebc8-102c-a055-00304897c9c6 Ya think it's going to be hard to find a buyer for that house?
Also in California, a sink hole ate a fire truck! http://www.ksee24.com/news/local/57700422.html
and Gail ... I'm rolling on the floor laughing about the duct tape across the bottom of the door to keep the air conditioning inside! My husband and I were sitting out on the pool deck about a week ago and he said "What's that silver color I'm seeing at the bottom of the door down at the end of the pool area?" I laughed so hard ... it had been there a week or so and he was just noticing. I told him "It's duct tape to keep the snakes out!" The ground has settled so much there's a gap under the screen door and I went to step out into the backyard one day and a huge black snake was laying on the cement pavers, right outside the door! Scared the beejeebies outta me! My husband said he wondered who was more scared, the snake or me ... I said ME! But, the snake did take off into a flower bed. It was the second black snake I'd seen in a couple of weeks. I don't mind them so much, scared of em' but at least they aren't the poisonous variety like we found a year ago! So ... your duct tape is keeping cool air IN and my duct tape is keeping slithery snakes OUT! ^_^
How funny, Lin. Snakes don't scare me but the only things I am really afraid of are fire and heights. I even pick up the spiders in the house and take them outside inside a piece of kleenex.
I'm afraid of Fire and Heights as well. Snakes always startle me, and it really gets my heart racing if I see one of the poisonous variety!
dont much care for spiders
Insects in general freak me out. Except for ants. Go figure.
Give me the toads, lizards, gecko's . . .
Don't like insects much either,
My daughter called from SA and said it was pouring rain this morning................
Yes, well, now the sun is up, and it's hot and humid!!!! It was nice while it lasted!
