What type of ant is this?

From what I have looked up, it seems these guys are either Thief or Pharaoh ants. I can't get a closer picture of them, and most of them I squished before taking the photo.

I doubt that a determination can be made from this image. See http://tinyurl.com/nbk6bw for a key to identifying common household ants. Accurate identification is important here, as control strategies for these two species are quite different.

Another picture. Hard to identify because none of the pictures on that site have a top view of the ants. But thanks!
