How long do you keep your geraniums (pelargoniums)?

Very nice pictures DTG.

Caroline,
Do you think I should take the entire pot & just plop it in the school atrium or should I take the geraniums out & transplant them into the atrium soil? Also thought I would take begonias and impatiens. Everyone will be so surprised with the burst of color.

We would love to be able to grow pelargoniums as shrubs.
We do the best we can by taking them in for the winter.

Joanne, probably the geraniums would get watered better if they are in the atrium soil?
If I were doing it for myself , then I would leave them in the pots as geraniums( of the pelargonium kind) flower more if they are pot bound.

Dale these posts might be a tad depressing for pelargonium lovers in Calgary!

I do two things with my favorite rare ones:

I take cuttings and pot in vermiculite or perlite. I also take the original plant, cut it back by 2/3 and dig up the roots, then repot in 6 inch pots. I can take cuttings from these once they establish.

I have about a dozen kinds which I save every year. The fancy leaf ones are really intriguing.

I save mine every year since they are getting expensive to buy

Thanks for the pictures of so many kinds, Dale.
We have challenges in growing pelargoniums and the Californians have challenges
when growing tulips.
It is fun though to see how things grow in different climates.
