Lily has long leaves that droop!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I have some pretty ordinary daylilies. This one has very long leaves that droop. I have smaller ones in back but the drooping one hides those.

Why are the leave so long and why do they droop? Is it the type of lily it is? Is there anything I can do to change it?

Well, it's daylily and many just grow that way. I see that it's up against a fence ~ you could move it or trim the long stuff.

Even in the early spring it has long leaves that hide the other daylilies. I shouldn't trim the leaves before they bloom should I?

I don't think it would probably matter when you trim them, but you can ask in the Daylily forum.

Moby, thanks. I didn't know there was a daylilie forum. I will go over there.

Why not just trade places-- put this one in back and bring the shorter one forward in its place. another option is to remove it altogether since it has a natural form that interferes with the others. You could divide one of your other daylilies to fill its place. Just offering a couple more options here...

I hate to throw a flower out. I can't do any serious digging right now and it is getting pretty big. Hopefully I will be able to soon. I got it from Freecycle.com so maybe I can get someone to take it AND dig it up! lol If I keep it, I will have to wait until the tomatoes get all of their tomatoes ripe and then I could move it over.

Pardalinum, thanks for your suggestions.

This looks like a normal daylily to me. Usually they have such a dense
curtain of leaves that they smother any thing growing under it. You just have to give it its' own space.
