yes you heard it here, a big fat robin sitting in my yard, soaking up the sun, in the 40s today, tomorrow back to reality, snow and wind chill of -25 they said. :(
saw a robin today
Connie,(this is a dumb question) does that mean to you folks that spring is near? Down here when we see one it means winter has set in. The robins show up here at the end of Jan. and stay 'till Feb. Although I love seeing them, I always think "ugh! so winter is really here!" Isn't that funny! Lisa
Where I grew up in Wisconsin, robins were a sign of spring. Here in Tennessee, robins come pretty early. I saw a whole flock of about 30 about a week ago. It did make me think that the ground hog was mistaken !
Seeing a Robin is one of the first signs of spring for us here in the north. I haven't seen any as of yet, should be soon. Although this year they would need snowboots and ice skates.
They start leaving here right about now. So they must come down here when it is really cold and leave when it starts warming up. They usually leave by the end of Feb. Now when we start seeing Purple Martins I think "ahhh! Spring! LOL! Lisa
I saw my first one about 2 wks ago, and a big flock of them yesterday! :) Definately a sign of spring to me!
Zones 6 & 7 seeing Robins????? that means I'm next!!! Yeah!! (sorry Lisa, but it is very good news for us!) Julie
We won't see robins for a while yet. The temp when I left home was about -17 and our high today will be 11. Bitter temps. The only birds we see this time of year are a few small birds that we feed, lots of crow, and pheasants. All I can think though is March is around the corner and we start seeing a thaw. By the end of March we have seen most of our bad weather.
yes here in western new york, a robin is a sign of spring. unfortuately, i think that bird had his clock wrong. its bitter cold here with wind chills below zero. Hope he has is snow pants on. lolololol
frezzing rain and in the 20's here in the heartland.....
lost power for about and hour because of the ice....
was in the 50's yesterday...
so it seems REAL COLD NOW.....
Yep, robins are a sign of spring here, and we don't have any yet. I remember one year in the middle of a snow and wind storm a pair showed up and sat on the rail fence like they were talking. I could emagine Mrs. Robin saying to Mr. Robin "just look where you got us to this time by being so stubborn and not stopping to ask for directions".
