Rather large black wasp with blueish/black wings. Does not have the thin "waist" associated with Blue Mud Daubers

This wasp is in the family Sphecidae, it is known as a katydid wasp or the great black sphex (Sphex pensylvanica) - see http://tinyurl.com/lylgo8
