CLOSED: ID Request for a Tiger Patterned Beetle
I think it's a Pennsylvania Leather-wing. They've recently invaded my yard - I have them all over my coneflowers and black-eyed susans.
The specific name is Chauliognathus pennsylvanicus; it is in the family Cantharidae - see http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/go/72/
