I was walking on the beach and came across this rainbow beetle on a log. Any idea what it is?

This beetle is in the family Buprestidae (metallic wood-boring beetles); specifically, it appears to be one known as the golden buprestid or golden jewel beetle (Buprestis aurulenta) - see http://tinyurl.com/mwklyr for an image. The larval stage of this beetle can last for many years, with adults sometimes emerging inside houses long after they were built - see http://tinyurl.com/nezn76.
