lily still has green top

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I am in a perennial swap and I bought the lily tiny ghost (this is a halloween swap) can I wash off the dirt and send it like most plants in wet paper towels and plastic wrap? Do I leave the green top on?

Thank you

NOOOooo...... to the wet and plastic! Are you shipping now, or closer to Halloween? Or is this a Halloween-themed swap?

When sharing lily bulbs, it's best done in the Fall after the stems have died back. But if you must trade sooner it should be ok. Dig right before to need to ship and cut the stem a bit above the bulb. Place the bulb in a plastic baggie of slightly moistened peat, squeeze out most of the air, then close the bag with a twist tie or staple. Ziplocks work well. Remember to label.

Hope your trade is fun! :)

Would be shipping in this week. All my lilies except for one or two are big and nice and green....no signs of slowing down......

Thank you for letting me know before I made a big mistake. I bought tiny ghost, thought that is appropriate for halloween, sides it was on sale for 1.99 at home depot....LOL I am amazed when looking or the theme named plants it was so easy. I have the daylily something pumpkin or yeah and masquarade party.....

Again that you for helping me.

You're most welcome. Is this swap here on DG? I'd like to eavesdrop as I'm a big fan of theme gardens and DH is especially fond of Halloween.

To be safe, you might want to advise your recipient that lilies need to be planted promptly.

Yes it is under the group trades thingy, it is the dirt diggers, it has been really fun. We have done course red white and blue theme for the 4th. Then plants with summer drink names or the such, like lakeside cha cha for July...Sept was for service folks, and now halloween. It has been a great group.
