This plant blooms constantly. Mealy bugs and all., but they seem to stick to the buds. Nasty little buggers but they certainly do not harm the plant or the blooms. The frangrance is so sweet and nice. I have two of these and am going to start propagating them if and when they stop blooming. JB
Gardenia Jasminoides 'fortuiana'
Soooo pretty JB....
Are you able to keep those outside during the winter? I live in 5b - I'm looking for shade tolerant, fragrant flowers that can survive in pots on my shaded patio. I could always bring it inside on especially cold days......... That is beautiful!
Hello Karrie20x, I would not take a chance leaving it outside. It needs 60 deg. or more, in fact, they say you should live in Zone 8 to keep it outside. It takes sun or part sun, which mine gets the East Morning sun. It flowers most of the year if it is happy. :>) I do recommend it if you want an easy gardenia. Mealy bugs love it. But it is so worth the effort. Hope this helps. JB
Thank you. I should order one and get it going inside so I can put it out next late spring.
I tried to google this Gardenia and really got nothing but this thread. It must be hard to find. If it does stop blooming and you do take cuttings, please let us know. I love Gardenia but only have one type and have taken lots of cuttings, so now I have fifteen of them around the yard. I even planted some in an area that will soon be my new peacock pens. I may need to protect them but I will be planting several shrubs in and around the pens. Two other shrubs I have planted in the pens are Winter Honeysuckle and Mockorange. Peafowl like plants to hide behind when strangers come around.
Kenboy, you can find it at www.logees.com. they have 2 and 4 inch pots according to the last book I received. They are hardy in Zone 8. Selling there for $7.95 and $15.95. I am hoping to take some cuttings in a few weeks. If you Dmail me a reminder in a few weeks I will be glad to put you on my list .....
