Ok, so I posted this in the wrong forum...so I'm re-posting...sorry. Anyway, I found this is my daughter's room and I live in North Carolina. Can anyone tell me what it is? I'm really freaked out by spiders and am getting really bad full body chills from trying to identify it online...thanks so much :-) BTW...I didn't kill it. It was dead when I found it.
CLOSED: Brown spider with black stripes???
This spider is harmless to humans; it is a wolf spider (family Lycosidae), likely in the genus Rabidosa - see http://tinyurl.com/lewjd8 for an example from North Carolina. These spiders are active hunters that often enter homes in search of prey. They are not aggressive, but may attempt to bite if you pick one up carelessly.
Thank you thank you thank you....I will be able to sleep well tonight now :-)
