Clear insect with Orange Thorax, size of a quarter in CO

My husband and I were recently on vacation in Crested Butte CO. I was playing on my cell phone and the light attracted a bug, I shewed it a away and then something bit my husband's arm. When we turned on the light the only insect we saw was this creature... which after many hours of research I think was a Mayfly... However, from what i see everyone says they don't sting or bite.... is there another creature out there giving mayflies a bad wrap? Any other suggestions?
