I have a Calla Lily Q

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

How deep should I plant my calla lily bulbs? And if I plant them in a planter how tall/big should that planter be?
Thank you

There may be a few folks here that grow callas, but this forum deals mainly with Lilium, which are true lilies. You might get a quicker response in the Bulbs forum.

No problem! :) LOTS for flowers have 'lily' in the name, for no reason at all. :)

I guess that like a cana lily? Or a Crinum lily?

What makes a lily a lily?

Lilies are scaly bulbs that are never truly dormant. Here is some info to help explain how lilies are different. http://lilies.org/view-nals-articles/growing-from-seed/4-lily-culture.html http://lilies.org/view-nals-articles/growing-from-seed/8-propagating-lilies.html

Thank you very much Moby.

In my zone (6), they are more like annuals. I have excellent luck inground as well as containers. While not a lilium, they are wonderful plants, and the bloom lasts about 3 weeks. Occasionally they come up from the previous year. They are planted about 4 inches deep. We protect the garden bulbs with leaves.

This year they all had attractive leaves. See the zantedeschia here.

We gave you a lot of info, but did not answer your question. Four inches should do it.

thanks....they"ll be ok in the container?

I put them in a window box with about 6 inches of soil. Since you're in a much warmer zone, I think I'd put them in a somewhat larger container, maybe 8 inches deep with multiple bulbs. If they're mature bulbs in zone 6, we plant in March, and they come up in July. Since I buy new each year, I mix up the bulbs as some bloom earlier and they stay pretty for so long. I would not expect bulblets to bloom for a few years.
