Hi I know this caterpiller is probably in these topics somewhere but I didn't have time to check through all of them today.
I found it on our new, treed lot and it was voraciously eating some grapevine leaves. I brought it home to look it up but will take it back today. I hope someone can identify it for me.

CLOSED: fat caterpiller??
This is a larva of the Pandorus sphinx; Eumorpha pandorus (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae); grapevines are among its main food plants, and the caterpillars can be quite variable in background color - see http://tinyurl.com/mzobxx
