the 2 new kids on the block! WOOHOO!

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

Went out this am to check everything and see what the deer ate last night, like I always do, and look what I found! 2 new ones! So pretty and very surprised to see them! Haven't had any like this before, so will definately have to try to collect seeds from these 2.

That's one of my favorite mgs - for some reason unknown to me, butterflies seem to prefer it - maybe because volunteers of it reached the top of the magnolia tree one year where butterflies like to spread the wings in the sun.

The deer got to our mgs, too, in that same year, before we had successfully surrounded our garden completely with deer barricades (took forever). I sprayed the vines twice, a few weeks apart, with one of those deer repellent sprays - don't remember offhand which one - Liquid Fence? It wasn't too expensive, because I left all the other plants for the chomping pleasure of deer and woodchucks, who had already thinned out their favorites over the years anyway.

Ultimately, the vines did well, minus some leaves which the vines replaced.

You might like to check out the section on deer under FOES in the mg sticky index.

Hope you stick around, skellogg - welcome

Thanks everyone! Had 1 mg last year, someone gifted me, and it did so well I threw a bunch of seeds out this year. Actually started 6 or 8 inside in peat pots. Put them out this spring, and direct sowed a few seeds between the pots. Counted everything very carefully, and for whatever reason, I have 10 more vines growing than what I planted. So apparently, that little vine last year was prolific! I will definately start more next year! And am planning on adding yellow next year as well.
Deer are always a problem here. Doesn't helpthat the neighbor likes them and feeds them to keep them around. I will check out the sticky! Right now my deer control consists of 2 lazy dogs and a paint ball gun!

That is my favourite MG if you save seed you might get some white with a few flecks a pink throut.

No deer problems here but I heard that old clothes and human wee keeps them away..

Be sure to stand upwind when you perfume the vines with the mystical wee mister!

skellog, what kind of MG did you plant to get these attractive, striped blossoms? Where did you get the seed? Did you expect the pink throat?

skellog - Very nice Purple Flaked I. purpurea!

Cibarius - I will include some seeds of this cultivar in the group seed swap. :-)

The seeds were from the newbie free seeds! They were donated by a DG person named Syrumani. I am so happy that I got them. I really didn't know I would get anything that COOL! So now everybody knows who to contact! Love the pink throat! The seed envy did say light purple flakes, but had the latin name, so it meant nothing to me. I had to look it up so I knew they were MG's! Didn't say anything about the pink throat, and really I am glad it didn't. What a cool surprise at 6am with my morning coffee. What a great way to start a day!

Imzadi, I'll put you down for this one from me. The parent seed came to me from Emma labeled - Ipomoea purpurea Aomurasakisibori.

Regarding my list for you, I hate to tell you this, but that packet of *seed* from NARGS labeled Convolvulus cneorum was just empty husks with no seeds, so I won't be able to keep my promise about that one.

The season is young -

Thanks, Becky. I'm still getting seedlings popping up in the area where I grew my spring glories.
