CLOSED: Brown-ish Gold, Cockroach? Beetle?

Traverse City, MI

These prolific critters are about 1/4 inch long. I've seen them mostly on our home, deck and deck plants. I haven't noticed many in the outer gardens. They don't seem particularly interested in any one plant. While I have seen them fly, they mostly scurry - fast!

I hate to say this but they sure look like a roach. Do you have a lot of wood mulch near the deck?

This could be male wood cockroach (Parcoblatta sp.); these are very common denizens of wooded areas. They are not in the habit of colonizing occupied buildings, but frequently may be found indoors, as they (males, especially), may be attracted to lights at night. See http://tinyurl.com/kwvbcy for an image and control recommendations.
