Yes, you freeze them in the sugar and vinegar. That's why I rinse them off or pick off the ice chunks before I use them; most of it is probably vinegar and sugar but some of it may be liquid from the cucumbers, because they do lose a little, and I wouldn't want it diluting my salad dressing.
Getting so tired of summer vegetables!
Thanks, I'll try them that way. We love cucumbers and can grow them almost year round, but the hottest months of the summer we don't always have success with the vines. Last spring I had so many cucumbers and didn't really want to tackle making pickles. Freezing would be a great way to save them.
I tried making pickles in a crock, but they got soggy fast. I didn't know that you should cut off the blossom end to help prevent that. They were also too big because they were hiding under the leaves, so I cut them up before putting them in the crock. I may try again next year but this year wasn't a success!
We haven't found any siding yet (we have T-1-11 on the back and one side), but my husband doesn't like the look of it for the front... so we are on the hunt for some horizontal siding... we keep looking on Craig's list. The trick is to find enough, cheap enough...
My husband is in school right now getting a certificate in construction management, so this sort of became a school project for him. He ended up drawing the plans himself. I'm VERY proud of him!
We didn't put electricity in it, and I wish now that we had. I get home from work after dark so I don't get to play out there during the week. That said, it won't be that hard to wire for it down the road...
I may try the cucumber trick for zucchini next year - do you think it would work?
