This guy is about an inch long, maybe a little less, and stayed very still while I was able to get close enough for a good macro shot. Does anyone know who he is and whether he is friend or foe?
CLOSED: Who is this?
This is a banded net-wing beetle (Coleoptera: Lycidae); possibly Calopteron discrepans; - see http://tinyurl.com/nxe6go for an image of this and related species. The larvae of these beetles are predaceous on other small arthropods; the adults seem to feed primarily on liquids exuded by decaying plants.
Thanks once again, Suunto. You certainly have a lot of knowledge!
