CLOSED: Odd BEE-havior

northwest, IL(Zone 5a)

Ah, can anyone tell me what's going on here? A billion bees swirled into my garden this evening. They paid no attention to the flowers like the regular bees. The buzz was pretty loud!

The settled on my 'tiger eye' sumac. The solid mass of bees must be about 2 gallons worth. It is tipping the branch sideways as you can see.

Are these real honey bees? What are they doing? Are they just passing thru or planning to stay? If they are gonna stay we have a problem.

thx for your thoughts,
Karen in Illinois

This behavior is normal for honey bees; it's called swarming - see http://tinyurl.com/lc69u5 for detailed information.
