I have been watching my Crimson Rambler hoping for photo opportunities of the unopened flower. Some days it unfurls before dawn breaks; other days it waits until the sun is well up. What is the stimulus this action?
Cibarius
Furled Crimson Rambler
Creating this picture gave me fits! I used (or misused) flash and then had to adjust the brightness in Paint Shop Pro to bring out the details where the white blossom was overexposed. So the background looks darker than it really was. Makes it looks like a nocturnal image.
Thank you for the compliment. One thing I have discovered about MG cultivation- if you are a sleepy head, their beauty will be lost on you!
Nice photo, Cibarius! And you are so right! Past 9 am here and the blooms are already starting to wilt. :-) I think I need more shade for them to grow in! :-)
Hey boo- Can you tell me what it is like to grow things in Phoenix? What is your yard and growing space like? How do you water? I guess if morning glories become invasive with you, all you have to do is withold the water and they the war is over. Not so in the humid east.
Sorry, I did not respnd sooner!
It's difficult in the summer here...so hot. My MG's struggle but the second it cools off just a little they are back in full force. I love MG's but they don't get invasive so much here because I keep them in lare containers. And because they limp along in our 115 degree heat, they are gasping for cooler weather. At 105 they rebound...and all fall and spring they are gorgeous! Some winters I have them still growing until it relaly gets cold.
I have a patio home with a long narrow backyard...about 40 feet long and 15 feet wide. Small and easy to care for with a long garden hose. I have a sprikler system for the grass but love to hand water.
I lived in Memphis as a child and my sister just moved here from Kentucky...so I know your climate is much more suitable for MG's. And so very green, right?
