Unknown MG from Becky

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

This has been blooming but this is the first picture I could get. I didn't think I planted any kind of MG like this, and the only person I got seeds from last fall is Becky. Becky, do you know what this is?? It's taken through a window, the only way I could even get a pic. But imagine a bloom about 2" across with these feathery petals behind the main bloom. It's very unusual, and pretty!

Like a feathered Jamie Lynn, a hige

Hi Judith! Hmmm ... it IS an I. purpurea that looks like it is trying to be a hige. With the pinkish color near the throat, it is NOT Gypsy Bride. I only grew one I. purpurea last year and that was Purple Flaked. Some of the white solid blooms did resemble your bloom, but I didn't get any higes on that vine. So it must be a mutant. I often wonder if self-pollination will create hige mutants over time. Perhaps that is what has happened here? Is that your only bloom so far? If not, what did the other blooms look like? I was also trying to cross an I. purpurea with an I. nil last year. But unlikely that is the result of it... It must be a mutant form of Purple Flaked. And a nice one at that! You get to name it if the blooms stay consistent. :-) Congrats on your lovely and unusual vine and blooms! :-)

And by the way ... if you get seeds, I'd love to trade you for a few this winter! :-)
