Is the rain ever going to stop?

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

I guess you can get too much of a good thing. We have had exactly 37 hours of straight , rain free weather in two weeks. Otherwise, it has rained at least once a day almost the whole month. I'm actually keeping track! There is nothing else to do. Even if it isn't raining, the ground and garden are too wet to work in.
The garden is completely over run by squash and pumpkin vines, not a lot of fruit though. I think it has rained too much for the bees to get to the blossoms. They mostly hang around the front of their hives and grumble about the weather. Still don't have a single tomato with any color other than green. I'm getting desperate for a good tomato.

The only thing happy in my yard right now is the DUCKS!

Allen Park, MI(Zone 6a)

Send some my way

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

You mean we live in the same state and you need rain? Oh sorry, I forgot we live in Michigan. I can have snow while you have lilacs.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

paul, I would have taken that rain too! And I'm not that far away either! Or my garden and flower beds aren't.............They are near the UP of Michigan.

Northern, MI(Zone 6a)

You can have mine,
I'm out working in it now. This is day five of straight rain.
I work outside for my job during the week so it is getting old quick.

Take it please. In fact take all of it for the next month or so I will run irrigation if I need it that bad....

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Thanks, send it over Penth2o.

I work inside! I wish we had gotten rain earlier here. All we did was water, water, water, water......and it wasn't even real hot.

I hate to see what winter is going to bring, and from todays weather, you can tell it's not that far away :(

Lachine, MI

hi ya'll...
Were 4 inches above normal for August here- we have the canoes ready and the small boat and motor LOL
will it ever dry up some- my biggest concern is the cold weather along with the wet will have veggie plants rotting before harvest...how are anyone elses veggie gardens doing?
Sandy

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Hmmmmmm
Do you think maybe you should be building an Ark? LOL

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

no rain here just clouds and coooooooooooooooooool--summer is over!
i hear the geese grouping up already! :(

Northern, MI(Zone 6a)

First day in six that it didn't rain all day. Had scattered sunlight for 4 hours. Delphiniums are all busted down. Might as well whack em to the ground now as I did the foxglove. At least I got two blooms out of them.

Yep summers over,
The sandhill cranes are grouping & eating everything in sight prepping for the trip.

Wow didn't get much done this summer. I learned a lot and I got a good start on this property though. Thank you all.

I hope to make a lot of progress this winter on a few car restorations I have been blowing off for this property. I don't know, we will see. My brother is already talking about two different ski trips in the works.

Lachine, MI

Yes...has anyone seen the temps for the next week?
60's and 40's for highs and lows...it sure sneaked up on us...but I love the fall anyhoo
just want the veggies too! LOL

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

the geese are ganging up on the lake and the hummers are fighting over the feeders where did the summer go ? did I work all through it and miss it all;0(

Gloria

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

It was way too short even here in Wisconsin :(
And we are finally getting the rain we needed during the summer.
Is mother nature kind of screwed up do you think?

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

some thing is !! I wonder what the winter is going to be like kind of scary :0(
Gloria

Northern, MI(Zone 6a)

Downpouring for the last seven hours here.
Flash flooding.

Thats seven days of solid rain with 6 scattered hours of broken sunlight.
If I do have any nasty garden pest they are drowned by now....

I am sick of this.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Wow........
And all we got was a light rain most of the day, but good for any plants that are still thriving.

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

WOW Joel no rain down here hay you got any tall boots From the forecasts I think you might need them we are still wet from all the rain we have had :0( but the Tabbacco I'm growing seems to like it

Gotta go,
Lightning just blew a tree in my backyard. I'm gonna get fried typing on this thing.
I'll talk to ya when this blows over Kassy_51 's way across the lake.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Whoa, no kidding, off that computer!..............Lost a mother board to lightning once :(
If the storm is bad, I always unplug now.

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

We've had a nice sunny dry spell here. Supposed to get some rain tomorrow though. I did see where the temps are really going to drop very soon. I hate to think about it but I'll be needing to start some fall cleanup soon. I have too much to do to wait till the last minute. That happened to me one year and I wasn't done. It comes real fast here. We've been slowly pulling stuff out of the veggie garden. Pulled all the bean plants out yesterday. Still getting tomatoes, squash and cukes. Want to put all my chicken manure and pine shavings in with the fall leaves and till it in before winter.

We have three hens laying eggs every day now. We have a dozen birds. Won't be long and we'll be getting a dozen eggs a day. They are so good to eat and the chickens sure are entertaining. :)

Stay dry ya'll.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Hey Loon, do your chickens lay well all winter?
I see you are one zone south of us, but ours tend to stop laying as much when it gets cold.

Sanford, MI(Zone 5a)

I still have buds on my beans well this is the second set the baby bunnies got the first ones and I started cleaning beds every thing is going so fast except the tomatos there still green I can always do relish I guess ;0)
Gloria

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Alot of our tomatoes are green too, and we also have buds on the second set of beans.

And were a zone north of you...... UGH!!

My carnation hasn't even bloomed yet this year :(

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

I don't know if my chickens lay eggs in the winter or not. I just got these chickens. They are 18 weeks old. They are the first chickens I've ever had. We just finished up the indoor coop inside the old barn. They'll stay in there when it gets cold. I'm told if you leave a light on for them and keep them out of the cold wind they will still lay in the winter. We'll see. I hope so!

I pulled my beans out because I was sick of beans. :)

Brenda

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Ok Brenda, I was just wondering. We have had chickens for 4 years now.
Yes, ours are in a coop in the winter and do have a light too. Actually we have 2 coops, one is mostly Americana's and the others are a mixed breed. A few of this, one of that, 3 of this.

Keep you eye on the eggs in the winter if you can. When it gets really cold they do freeze and crack. You will know if a egg cracked from freezing if the crack is the long way on the egg. We don't get a lot of eggs during the winter, because everyone was at work and no one was home to get the eggs, so they froze and cracked

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

i have all kinds of mators and peppers!! we have been eating fresh salsa for weeks!
going to have to grow stuff to make corn chips LOL!!!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

LOL notmartha
Well our tomatoes are getting there.
Better start planting the corn now ^_^

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

I can't believe it's freeking raining AGAIN!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

soon it will be white!!! gag

Northern, MI(Zone 6a)

Easy Dori,
No white stuff talk yet. Don't want to jinx us. I have way too much to do yet.

What are you girls still doing up.....

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I work nights so I'm still up. By this time tomorrow I will be headed for work.

Yes, no white stuff talk. Winters are way to long the way it is!

Northern, MI(Zone 6a)

It's a great day today. I took it off.

Suns coming up, no rain yet but we are soaked from a week of rain with roads washed out & fields flooded. Pretty wet to do things but I'm putting on junk clothes & going at it.

What do you guyz use for weather info. I use Intellicast which seems to be real accurate. Put in your zip code and go from there.

My old dog. If she pees on the floor in front of the doggy door it is either raining or about to. If it's cold, she pulls the blanket off the couch. If it's going to snow she won't even get out of bed. But if she is giggling in the grass, I know it's going to be a beautiful day.

AuGres, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks for the link. I like that better than my accuweather link. Looks like I have a couple days to think about mowing before it rains on Saturday.

Williamsburg, MI(Zone 4b)

Definately, the beagle is rolling in the grass!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

penth2o, I sure hope you don't trust them giving you a forecast for 10 days.
If they are right on it all the time, we need to get them over here ^_^

Northern, MI(Zone 6a)

Believe it or not they are the most accurate I have found to date.
It does change and updated but I have watched many and this always seems to be the most accurate. At least up here it has.

I try not to watch the 10 day forecast as you know it is Michigan and it should say 10 minute forecast....

Today was great up here though. Nice and sunny trying to dry things out. We have a lot of roads and bridges washed away from a week of hard, hard rains.

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

OK, your keep saying up here and your in zone 6.
I'm in zone 4 in Wisconsin, so just how far up are you? I'm just wondering ^_^

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

66 on sunday that suckz!!!

Northern, MI(Zone 6a)

Sorry,
I keep thinking most are from the Detroit area for some reason.
You know where the car ferries run from Manitowoc to Ludington.
I'm just south of Ludington between Pentwater.
