Can I just dig it up and transplant? I am lily-ignorant! They were my mother's love.
This one is about 4 feet high, and shades out my morning glory trellis base. (No morning glories grew this year.) It was very beautiful, just in the wrong place. Funny thing is, the lily wasn't there last year.
Any help would be appreciated.

Need to move a lily.
The best time to move Lilies is fall, after the foliage has started browning, but I've successfully moved them while in active growth too. If you go ahead and move it, just make sure to keep the root ball in tact. Sometimes Lilies sprout a few inches to the side of where the bulb is situated, so be sure not to sink the spade in too close to the stalk or you may sever it from the bulb.
Thank you for the information. I will wait until it dies back in the fall, and I can find a good place to move it to.
Another question about moving lilies now. They have bloomed and the stems are brown already and beginning to lay down. I'm afraid I can't find them later as they are rather scattered. Hot and humid and rained 1/2 inch last night.
Golf tees are great markers if the area isn't covered by other plants.
If the leaves have browned and the stems are dying off, it should be fine to go ahead and dig them.
Good idea about the golf tees. They are rather covered as they are in the iris bed. If I should decide to dig them now, should I go ahead and replant or wrap in newspaper and save until cooler weather?
Go ahead and transplant them in your desired location then, Lou. It should work out perfectly then.
Thank you for your help. sigh. Another obsession.

the tall green bamboo stakes are good markers too, and they blend with the green in the garden, can make them as tall or short as needed.
