Which is why I said "most". Where do I draw the line? Where I choose to [smile]. I try to consider what purpose they serve in the world, and if they are useful to others in the grand scheme of things. Then whether they are harmful to me and mine, and how else (other than disposing of them arbitrarily) I can prevent the problems.
Many of those I dispatch are potential food sources, but are readily replaced by others. They are also causes of disease and injury.
I don't say I'm right, and yes, I think I'm a wimp. Were I wiser, I could say I have 4200 lbs of hamburger on the hoof, and about 16 chicken dinners. As it is, I have three hungry FurChildren who live in a pasture, and 16 (or so) roosters who bounce around with them.
Sigh

LOL, ok Catmad, thanks for your reasoning on it......I was just wondering ^_^
And I'm with you on your discription of your animals.....
If we end up with too many roosters, we try to find homes for them. They don't become our chicken dinners.
Our hens are only used for egg.......Other then that they are pets.
And we could never have a cow, because it would live forever ;-)
Giggle. I hear you. Yesterday my SO (who is the one who wanted the cows) came back from feeding them, and asked me how long they'd live, looking rather sad. I told him I thought 20 years or more. His face lit up like a beacon. I saw rows and rows of bales of hay marching off into the sunset :(.
No, don't take me seriously. I really enjoy them. There's nothing more peaceful than cows relaxing after a good day. And, they have now proved useful [G]. They are NOT pleased when anything enters their pasture, and yesterday ran to chase out a dog. The dog was walking with it's owners, but had reached the fence, and they were very annoyed. That's a LOT of anger coming at ya....
Now I can relax a bit about the chickens, at least while they're in the front pasture.
We have a heifer who has turned out to be quite good at repelling feral hogs, I don't know how she'd do with raptors...
