CLOSED: Looks like small dragon.. Anybody??

Atlanta, GA(Zone 7b)

Late afternoon today just going around my backyard picking up some fallen leaves here and there. Since I had just come out of swimming pool I was NOT wearing my glasses and pulled at this! Since IT didn't go in spite of look like brown leaf I decided to get my glasses... Low and behold and look, I'm not very good with creepy crawlers of flying ones so would like to know. Does any one know this one, and is this a sign few hundred are coming my way too??? He's holding on for dear life it seems, and I really gave it a tug but he/she didn't move.
Any advise??

Its some kind of sphinx moth. Can you get a picture of the back of it, showing the wings?

Without seeing a dorsal view, my first guess would be a small-eyed sphinx; Paonias myops - see http://tinyurl.com/mac3aq for an example.

Sorry for any confusion - I should have mentioned that it is a sphinx moth (Lepidoptera: Sphingidae), but I thought that claypa already had that covered in an earlier posting.

Sorry yes you're right. It's am awesome creature, isn't it? Will check today if it's still there. We had an incredible downpour last night. I wonder if it got washed away?
