Neat and very pretty bloom Colin! Now I wish I had grown more of my purpureas this year.

Those are really awesome looking, Colin! I love the little flag on the one! I've never seen that before on an I. purpurea full bloom. I wonder if that bloom could possibly have potential for a hige gene?

thanks Helena:-)
Thanks Becky... i selfed the one with the flag... although it was allready open, and tagged it :-)

Nice flower Colin!!

Those look really wicked!

What the hell is in that Walsall water? I don't get that here and I am about 3 miles away!

Where we live there used to be lots of mining as it was the heart of the industrial revolution, just wondering if it is causing all these wonderful things!

I have seen medusa clovers and all sorts of variegation and experiments from Colin's Cauldron!

More photos! More!

Colin -
Your blooms are suberb. Love your six spoked Milky Way Blooms.

thanks Marie, Ronnie, Ray, Karen and Emma :-)

Ray... you may have something there... it could be Cadmium as the Blackcountry soil is full of it... a legacy of the industrial revolution which all started around here...

and Cadmium is a known 'mutagen' and acts by inhibiting genetic repair systems(like caffiene)... so it could explain the weird and wonderful teratogenic plants, that just seem to grow around here...

i also have a vine that is showing petaloid sepals on some of the buds, a vine that seems to have reduced chlorophyl clearing in the petals, giving a greenish/turquoise cast to the bloom(a Jamie lynn type)... and quite a few chimeric type variegations going on...
