It has been hovering over my pond since a few days. It has nice wide wings. I notice it has a broken off leg. Which is this?
Which is this dragonfly?
I'm trying to classify a few variety of dragonflies. Any help, please?
The first one is in the family Libellulidae; likely Tramea limbata, known as the black marsh trotter - see http://tinyurl.com/28j6yuy for an image. The second is in the family Aeshnidae; it bears some resemblance to Anax ephippiger - see http://tinyurl.com/2evlb87 for an image. You may wish to obtain a copy of "Dragonflies of India: A Field Guide"; edited by KA Subramanian - see http://tinyurl.com/25ohb44
Thanks Suunto, the first one is THAT. The second one too looks very close.
Thanks for the booklink.
I checked the second d/f and I'm convinced about your clue - which is indeed the Vagrant Emperor.
