This was found in a medical setting. The pathologist was wondering about the identification. I knew this would be the place to come.
what is this caterpillar?
This caterpillar is in the family Notodontidae (prominents). There are several species that have a roughly similar color pattern; this one might be Misogada unicolor, known as the drab prominent, - see http://tinyurl.com/ng7cy8 for an image. This species reportedly is very fond of sycamore trees.
