Too close to home

(Zone 6a)

I work for a non-profit in central NJ. We lost one of our donors on 9-11. Yesterday I spoke with a person who had attended our donor's funeral. It was reported that it was a very uplifting service, with survivors talking about how they were fortunate to have been able to speak with their loved one and to know how and when death came and how they ached for those who don't know.

Then last night, before a meeting, the director of our biggest fund raising event came up to me and gave me a big, long hug and a kiss, which had never happened before. It turned out that on Monday, the day before, he had been on the flight that crashed in Pennsylvania. I didn't sleep last night.

On the more positive side, if there can be a positive side, our organization sent shirts left over from our event into New York and one of our trucks will be used to make a delivery of sandwiches to Liberty State Park. Apparently, the shirts have been seen at one of the staging areas so we know they are going to be used and that makes me feel good.
