It is interesting to note that however naughty Victorian gentlemen and their companions behaved--the "Ladies of Intrigue" did not remove their socks. It was considered exceedingly depraved.
Sheepses, More Divine Sox, Yarnage, and Being Tutorialized
lol yes it is very interesting.
that is a very fine pic of the babies.. they are adorable! thank you. the sizzle.. is interesting.. cute..
"...the "Ladies of Intrigue" did not remove their socks. It was considered exceedingly depraved."
OMG, I got depraved last night and didn't even know it... let alone enjoy it.
Ratz!
Hey when you are the smallest you have to get in there and get it anyway you can. LOL
ok, to the right with the horns, what kind of sheep is that. I have a lamb with the same shaped nose and beautiful eyes.. of couse she's a little thing.. 4ish mths old.. I didn't realize that all sheep did not make perfect wool.. she is suppose to be a texas dahl.. she has yukky lamb fuz.. very prickly.. I am so dissapointed.. but she does have doe eyes. :-)
Fran - lamb fleeces can be very different from adult fleeces, so she may need time. Although, I'm not entirely sure that the Dahl fleece is a great one. I can't find any info on it in my breed books and online doesn't seem to indicate anything about it being good for spinning so I'm not sure.
The white ewe to the right with horns is a full Icelandic. Their lambs have nice fleeces though - very curly and long. Sven, the dark colored lamb with his butt facing you in the picture, is an Icelandic lamb.
Texas Dall sheep are a wild-stock sheep, not domestic. They are being bred in captivity for sport hunting and exotic pets. They are a hair sheep, not a wool sheep. Your lamb's wool is merely an insulating undercoat and would probably only ever be good for scratchy felting.
Google dall sheep and see what the true, original north american sheep looks like...
A domestic sheep has been selected and bred for hundreds of years to have little to no hair coat and produce an abundance of undercoat, what we know as wool.
What you've got is a nice pet, like a miniature zebu, and unfortunately about as useful spinning wise.
Miniature zebu...

OMG I must have a miniature zebu....I had never heard of them nor had I ever seen one. Now I am hooked.....
Just enough milk for cereal and coffee every morning...
LOL
the guy I got my alpaca from has them.. well his wife does.. kind of cool aren't they..
And yea on my sheep, she has such pretty eyes.. but petting her is like cuddling up to a soft brillo pad ;-)
Off topic a bit--but my email had this header:
Layers You'll Love--in Irresistible Fall Colors
I was intrigued, until I realized it was about LL Bean's new T-shirts and sweaters.....
{{snort}}
LOL
Chicken folk think differently. I too would have pictured Rhode Island Reds, Buff Orpingtons, etc.
Jayryunen OH HI how is things.... Hope all is well
I got to see Pix of Cmoxin trying her hand at socks... WHOOO HOOOO I am so impressed.
My feet say they do not wear polish, so any color would complement them...
I love it Cat, I was picturing all different products.. chicken diapers.. chicks.. etc.. too bad it was plainol T-shirts.
Here is the continued sock. I am quite clearly the slowest knitter on Earth. But, that is OK, I am diligent. And I have Catscan (the Divine Sock Goddess) as my tutor, without whom, I would never have had the nerve to contemplate this.
I want a layer in a fall olive green....can I get one of those? Giggle...
Ooooo, what pretty colors! But ja know, it kinda looks like a sock for a 2 x 4...
LOL
I'm going to wait for the spring edition of layers.... I'd like a nice cerise, a turquoise, a lavender.... shucky darn, I need a whole new wardrobe of hens....
Heavens I have enough trouble with one hook, I can not handle 2 knitting needles, I could never ever be able to handle FOUR!!!!!!
I lose my place just looking at it...
I much prefer hammer and nails. =0)
A 2x4 sock, perfect for brick-shaped feet! The colors are wonderful. Almost makes me want to knit, but that would require sitting still, I guess...
Actually, Porkpal, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee, who writes knitting books and has an excellent (and very funny) blog, and is also known as the "yarn harlot" is able to knit while walking. I have heard that various people can do this and apparently, as long as you are not doing something really large and complex, like a queen size afghan, it is quite effective. I, for one, am not trying it, but you could!
She doesn't live in Portland, Oregon does she? I've seen a gal walking down the street while she's knitting. Geeze, I can't use my cell phone and walk at the same time (I've run into signposts twice).
Nope, she lives in Toronto, Ontario. But, she was just in Oregon for the Sock Summit, which was a huge sock knitting event that just finished. I was so envious of the 1800 or so participants...
I just bought a headset for my home phone, so that I can talk on the phone and spin wool at the same time. No, I'm not addicted to spinning, why do you ask?
I heard about the Sock Summit after the fact :( I got a headset for basically the same reason, I don't spin but I do knit the end product. Seems like I get going good on a project and someone calls.
A sock summit? I had no idea, how divine!
That just turns everything on its head....
Do you have to wear handmade socks to get in? Would someone in hose be shunned as a thinly veiled interloper? Do the toe-sock knitters demand all communication be digital?

Ohhhhhhhhh.......SO BAD:0)

Thaaaank you

Ok need a update on the socks!!! Or did the four knitting needles claim a victim??? LOL
I get a nice book on crocheting socks must now get up the nerve to try crocheting some.
The sock has not progressed lately because I have been working on a crocheted acorn bag thing for a Ravelry swap that I am involved in. The swap has to be sent out by the end of August so I am busily trying to finish the acorn.
Here is the acorn in case you are interested.

When the acorn is finished, the sock will recommence.
I am getting a new rescue llama this week! Yay!
The acorn is really cute! Surely anyone who can do that will have no trouble knitting socks - even with all those extra needles.
Love the acorn bag!!!!! Great news on the llama!!!!
Here is a face picture of my new llama. I'll get more pix when I get him home!
