Alien Vine! What other vines have you got?

Birmingham, United Kingdom

VASSUP!

I have grown this one for a few years, it's a species of nasturtium, I think people who grow morning glories might also grow other vines.

Here is Canary Creeper, it looks a bit like me when I get up on the morning.

I think it's cool if you don't grow them give them a try!

Ray - Cool looking Canary Creeper blooms! They do look a little like the yellow birdies! :-) I, too, want to know if you grew it from seeds.

Hi

That one is grown from seeds; years ago T&M used to sell seeds etc then all of a sudden they stopped, I noticed that with sutherlandia etc.

It seems the big catalogues place emphasis on the new things and forget about the old species and before we know it they become rare or extinct

This vine is well cool and worthwhile growing but it attracts those white butterflies but my cats soon kill those off

How about Cobea scandens? Quite worthwhile growing from seed. I have many seed having found out how to pollinate. They are pollinated by bats in their home country, but our bats haven't found them. The botanical name for nasturtium is Tropaeolum and Chiltern Seeds in the UK have a large variety. I haven't figured out how to put pictures on this forum yet otherwise I would add a picture. I am sure there are pictures in the collection on DG. I could track some Sutherlandia seed if Rareseedman wanted.

Hi

Thanks for the offer; I have a 3 species of sutherlandia that I am going to experiment with as ethnobotanicals as they are meant to be good for health, I have grown them once and they are very rewarding and have flowers that look like a lobster's claw.

What do you know about the health benefits of sutherlandia?

I have some C. scandens at the moment however it has not flowered but apparently it forms a tuber so I might dig it up and take it indoors for the winter. It's covering a dicksonia antarctica at the moment.

Sutherlandia has health benefits?

I just take lots of vitamin C supplements. Works for me! :-)
