Can anyone point me to a list of bougainvilleas that do not have thorns?
Thank you!
Nancy
Bougainvilleas - which ones don't have thorns?
Here's a tree form without thorns - interesting subject! http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/140464/
Nancy, did you know we're having a RoundUp next month? Watch the forum for the thread.
Hi Kathleen,
Thanks for the pointer to the bougainvillea tree. I'm actually hoping for a bougainvillea vine that can be grown on a trellis in 3 half moon areas along the driveway (trees used to be in those spots). So far the mandevillas have not done well and we recently put a small Stictocardia Beraviensis there but I'm not sure it's doing well either. A coworker said "bougainvillea is really a hardy plant and would probably thrive there" so I thought that was a good idea as long as I could find one without thorns! ;-)
I've been keeping my eye on the RU thread. Looks like someone in Huntington Beach (can't think of who that is) may have a location/date soon. I hope my DH (Tony) will be able to make it as well.
I see your b'day is coming up very soon ;-)

Nancy, there is a new thread for the Round Up now: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1028679/
I did see several other thornless varieties. Just do an internet search for thornless bougainvillea and they will come up - I saw at least three.
Yep, we are an August family, brother, sister and me all born in the same month! Mom says it was those cold winters.
Hi Nancy, I've been thinking about getting a Stictocardia Beraviensis and noticed you said yours wasn't doing well. Just wondering if you think it is because of the spot it is in or what? I don't want to waste my time and money if the vine won't do well in Nor Cal.
thanks for any input.

They have some without thorns? I'm speechless. I'd better go check them out. They do grow here, but are susceptible to freezing temps.
They will grow back once established. They thrive year round in the gh. I would plant it in a south facing area, and mulch it good. You never know, some of my neighbors have beautiful bushy bougainvillea.
KC, my Mom said the same thing about me being born in Aug. my Sis in July, and one brother in June. She blamed it on the cold winters. I blame on lack of tv's. LOL's!
Good luck with your bougainvillea' happy_girl.
