Right after I posted my question about the GST being chrysalis for 3 weeks I looked again and it was hanging there drying wings. It stayed around a lot longer than the BST from yesterday. There's very little in our yard to nectar on now. Blooms are all drying up.

The sure fire way to tell a Palamedes is that yellow line on the underwing that runs parallel to the body. Also, I think the yellow on the Palamedes has more of an "Air-brushed" effect whereas the Black STs have more defined yellow (they color inside the lines I guess).

Thank you, Melanie and Cat. I never saw a line on the hindwing of the one on the left and that is what puzzled me. I wasn't sure they were one species courting or two species sparring over food or territory.
