I can see why 'Big Hook'!
Maybe she'll have to be commissioned as a Captain? ;-)

Ospreys - ocean side
Ohhhh...I thought this was the new pair....please excuse me...senior moment...DUH!
Well. dad needs a name too.....LOL
No Nanny, entirely my fault. I've probably been assuming that everyone on the other side of the planet knows exactly what I've been observing for several months, even though I haven't been posting. I must start the new thread. Yes, Dad does need a name and it has to be something really nice. He is such a lovely bird.
margaret, wonderful blue sky,and beautiful birds, great shots. And I think you are right it takes maturity to be able to "stop and smell the roses" I almost forgot ,Scott and marcus are home from perth now.The wannaroo wolves finished 3rd,best season in 25 yrs, scott will most likely play for them again, they both are going back to school to start their masters in the fall. looking forward to another osprey thread, cousins from rockhampton will be here in afew wks.again looking forward to osprey pics
Thanks hugger. I'm glad you enjoyed the Ospreys. Shame I never managed to catch up with Scott and Marcus. I hope they enjoyed there time in Perth. Let me know if Scott does return and I'll make a point of catching up with him.
Margaret, wouldnt it be nice if we could do everything we would like to do,that would be a dream come true ! But its always the thought that counts :) Tamara
Beautiful pics Margaret. Is "Dad" Aussie's dad, or is he another osprey? You've probably been busy photographing numerous ospreys since Aussie grew up.
Sounds like you haven't missed a beat since starting your new life. :)
Hi, OP. Yes, I'm as sure as I could possibly be that Dad is Aussie's Dad. All his behaviours are exactly the same and his favoured tree branch isn't one that would be randomly selected by other Ospreys as it's actually in the middle of a stand of trees.
Yes, life is pretty good at present.
I see you are back in action. The pics are nice and clear. You guys have some great light on that side of the pond. I wish I could get some of that light. I guess I will have to wait until late fall and winter to get some crisp blue skies.
I am so happy to see the Osprey thread back in action Margaret. Your photos and the story behind them are a wonderful thing!!
MargaretK, the osprey pictures are just fantastic! I love the aerial "battles". Such beauty.
Thanks, Al Rose and roybird. I can't wait (well I guess I'll have to) for the new lens to arrive to see if I can focus faster than with my current set-up. I lose a lot of inflight shots because the lens is hunting, even though the subject may be filling the viewfinder.
Aww, so glad to see Aussie's dad and 'companion' lol. Enjoying these pics too.
thanks, Marg.

margaret,Oh man iam envious, such beautiful surroundings,to be able take fantastic photos.LOVE YOUR RETIREMENT,lucky you.Wanted to say i will be away for awhile,I will be back after our Austrailian visitors leave back for home.I hope they like us !!! Tamara
Hi Margaret! Great shots! You are so lucky to be able to get so close to your subject. The Ospreys are beautiful and I love the Cormorant!
Tamara, if your Australian visitors don't like you, there's something wrong with them. Enjoy their company and accent.
Thanks Pelle. I agree that I am indeed privileged to be able to see two separate families of Osprey at such close quarters and so close to home.
margaret,Thank you,we will,gone to the beach,see you soon =) Tamara
Margaret, Aussie's Dad is such a good provider! Does Big Hook go fishing with her partner as well?
It will be interesting, to see the development of this series, as the other one was superb. Always enjoyed your descriptions, as well as the photos, that goes along with it. Big Hook is a lovely girl !!!
Hey, did you see any eggs in the nest when she was out of it eating?
I'm sorry I've been so tardy in replying to questions. Lily, I haven't seen Big Hook go off fishing since she's been sitting on egg/s. Dad is bringing her fish. At times, I've seen him bring one to her and she'll either go onto one of the low branches of the nest tree or even to Dad's favourite branch, where she'll eat some of the fish before returning with the remnants which Dad then takes from her to finish off. It's almost a ritualistic "passing of the fish".
Burn, she is a lovely girl. And Dad is so solicitous. He is always keen to take his turn sitting on the egg/s, but moves off them when Big Hook returns and gently coaxes him off.
Mrs Ed, because the nest has been built up, even from a slightly higher vantage point to my usual one, I haven't been able to see how many eggs there are. I may have more luck with binoculars.
Margaret,
A real pleasure to see Aussie's Dad and his new mate reusing their old nesting site. As always great photos. The surfers probably think that you are taking photos of them. LOL!
I've always enjoyed watching nature. I hate wearing shoes and being locked up in a building all day. I am so grateful I live where I do, and there is always something to see.
Being retired is kind of nice! : - )
Well done, GF!
