Might need some information

Is a problem developing with this philodendren? I had used Organicide a week before, I also had the drip hose off for a couple of days (by accident). I'm losing the Zebra plant which was doing SO well. I cannot lose the Mamie philo... I also have some root (from somewhere) that's taken over the dirt. It's hard to cut thru but is only an inch or two thick. It may be smothering the plant roots. Anyone have this problem?

Last spring I ripped out a bunch of plants and rototilled the dirt that I could. If I do it again, does anyone have an idea what I can do to kill this root?
I have Live oak, Slash Pine, Sweet Gum Trees growing around the outside. I have a suspicion that it is from the wild boston fern that always pops up, and I always pull out. But this root, whatever it is, gets so thick I'm afraid it's going to kill my other plants. It's like a wirey nesting materail.
I've got a White Elephant Palm in there that will be the main focus once it grows up. And an Australian Tree Fern I put back in there recently. I love my little hideaway. I'd appreciate some real advice. I may have to go to the professionals.
I also have a Fiddle-leaf Ficus that's getting too big and puts out some mean roots. That's coming out tomorrow! I'll put in a nice variegated Shell Ginger.

Maybe that's not it, the bad roots I mean. I just got home from work and found the Zebra Plant over on it's side. I picked it off it's rotted part that's going down into the soil. I saw 2 white bugs that sortof looked like termites. They were pudgy and by the time I got my glasses, they were gone. I took a spoon to the top layer of soil but stopped to think what my next move is. Do I do systemic? Do I search out the bugs? I'd like to replenish my earthworms this fall. Systemic would not be good for the earthworms, right? When I get ants I throw sevin-dust or DE (diatomatious earth), neither hurt the e-worms. I'm tired, going to bed. I really really would appreciate some help.

Hi Nancy, I'm sorry that I can't help you but your garden is certainly lovely. You might try asking in the foliage forum if you don't get any answers here. Things seem really quiet here on Dave's Garden. Maybe everyone's away on vacation or in the garden!

Thanks anyway, doss. Ya, that's my little hideaway.
