Red Leaf Ipomoea sagittata (saltmarsh morning-glory)

Birmingham, United Kingdom

VASSUP Dg'ers

Here is some fun with applying two different mutagen's to active growing tips then rooting.

Meet Black Beauty with red leaves stunning with pink flowers; stems, leaves are all dark burgundy!

I will be sure to only share this one with close friends in the inner circle (!)

Not a morning glory but a shrub lavatera with colour changing flowers that are so heavy it needs support, looks like a hibiscus and since flowers last a few days you have white and pink or a combination. This is the type of fun you can have with mutagens, I believe this one might be a tetraploid. The original parent I found by a supermarket but this one crossed with a close related species induced by the mutagen created something NEW rust resistant as well by introducing a special bacteria!

It's Ipomoea sagittata

Tokyo, Japan(Zone 10a)

I cant get hold of lavatera here in Japan we only seem to have the Asian rose of sharon or hibiscus.
Perhaps it's too hot here for them? Lavatera is so much more showy!

I agree, the lavatera looks lovely! I have a hibscus that I got from a DGer who isn't on this forum. It's been growing for 2 years in a pot. I also have some Rose Mallow that grew from seed.

My Rose Mallow is Pink. I wonder what the difference is between Hibiscus and Rose Mallow?

Rose Mallow is a hardy Hibiscus. My pink one is tropical.
