Freezing, just freezing...and its going to get worse this weekend. I have towels stuffed in all the windows and under the doors. Here I thought I had decent weatherstripping. I did get my turvies with the strawberries in, they are hanging in the garage.
I went out and topped all the brugs...just snapped them off and put them in water in the bathtub to start some more. Wrapped the stems and mad them cozy. and those too should come back from the ground.
Im gunna dump all the water from all EB's...dont want them cracking if it freezes.
TIME FOR A NEW SEASON
I hear yah, Garden. We're dipping into the mid-20s starting Thursday through probably Saturday morning. I'm thinking about my strategy, too.
Probably just do the sheets, but add the tarpaulin over the sheets. Fortunately, almost everything growing is in 5-gallon buckets with tall fill tubes. Easy enough to drape withough hurting the plants.
And, if bad goes to worse, I have a small portable space heater I could hook up under the tarps. It throws heat forward, and the top and sides don't heat up. I could sandwich it between two 40-gallon garbage cans, and it'll throw heat through the tarp tunnel....
and, I probably won't sleep all night, wondering if I'm setting the yard on fire!!!
Garden Glory: Do you think the EBs will crack from the cold? Now, you got me in a panic. It is supposed to get down to about 20 degrees here tonight, how cold is it where you are???? Even my dwarf pomegrante is okay down to 14-18 degrees. Watering them causes the water to freeze and that should protect them right?
joy
Gosh, I was up at 2:30 too...wish I had of come and checked the computer...freezing in here tho lol
I wasnt worried about the box itself, but with the water in them, I thought they might crack. Im guessing tho, that the water can expand up into the growing mixture so they would be good. Its not like a closed up bottle. Still got me worried...not to mention I have nice big brocoli in them. If nothing else, I dont want the roots to freeze. I did empty all the other boxes, just in case. Wont hurt the tomatoes to have nice fresh water in the spring anyway.
Did anay mention its gosh darned freezing ;-0!
TP- Let us know how you fared. I checked my stuff this morning and I'm still surviving - barely. We had 34* here in S. Dade county. One more to get thru tonite as the temps will only be one or two degrees higher. S Fla....?

So far so good!
