This spider is living on a tomato plant in Flushing, NY. It is about 1 to 1 1/2 inches. The color is not totally true because it was taken very early morning with fill flash. Does anyone know what kind it is?
CLOSED: Spider on a tomato plant
This is an orb-weaving spider (family Araneidae) in the genus Araneus, possibly a shamrock orb weaver, Araneus trifolium - see http://tinyurl.com/qprzpa for an image. This species, like many in the genus, can be highly variable in appearance.
Thanks, suunto!
