I had ordered a pack of red and blue streak purpurea off an online auction; out of 20 seeds I got about 3 plants of those; the rest were like the Grandpa Ott's Style...and this little darling appeared out of no where.
It's frustrating when you have a colour scheme and you don't get what you pay for; I have heard every excuse in the book so what I am doing now is when I buy from an auction is getting the seller to confirm via the online auction system what I can expect and get them to print and sign a screen shot what I have purchased.
I am well pleased with this, I was going to call her; she shimmers in the morning sun just like gossamer and has a yellow creamy star and is pure milk white all over. I had thought about the name "old milk maid" or "butter milk"
I noticed the blooms on this purpurea are larger than most purpurea and with the yellow star I thought about America, I did not think the name yellow star would be apt so I thought about the size. I have heard that "everything is large in the lone star state" and this one reminds me of the summer sun and I thought about the song "Yellow Rose of Texas"
I have always liked the Lone Ranger and when I think about Texas the first thing I think is about Cowboys so I thought of naming this morning glory WILF CARTER!!
See Wilf Carter here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tnu6ui_8nI0&feature=related
I bet he is popular with the ladies "
Meet the Yellow Rose of Texas! (WILF CARTER!)
