Hi can anyone tell me what this spider is that I found it in my garden. It had a blue egg pod with it and it was quite aggresive when it was disturbed. It's body is about 5mm It's head about half the size, yellow/cream underside and ais red on top. picture not great as camera not that good. I've never seen one of these or nothing like it before.
CLOSED: identify this spider
This spider is in the family Theridiidae (cobweb/comb-footed spiders); it likely is Enoplognatha ovata - see http://tinyurl.com/p8se4e for an example. This spider is extremely variable in colour pattern, if you Google the name, you should get some idea of this range. Reportedly, females of this species will defend its egg case quite vigorously, but it is harmless to humans.
thanks for the quick reply, the link and picture was spot on. cheers phil.
