i was wondering if anyone can tell me what kind of a spider this is. I live in Flin Flon, Manitoba, Canada. I have never seen a spider like this before.

This is an orb-weaving spider (family Araneidae) in the genus Araneus; possibly Araneus saevus - see http://tinyurl.com/mn2at7 and http://tinyurl.com/mfgg7h for two examples. Like most species of Araneus, this one exhibits considerable individual variation in color pattern.
